As a new PhD Candidate of Sustainability Education, I attended my first Research Symposium at Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona this past May. In my free time, I traversed the streets of Prescott, looking for good culture, good food, and good vibes.
As my explorations expanded, I stumbled upon The Hike Shack on Montezuma St. I went inside and immediately, as a hiking sandal enthusiast, wanted to look for a new pair of shoes to adventure comfortably in. I was intending to purchase a new set of Chaco’s or maybe Keens. I went to the front counter and inquired about stocks and new products. The young woman behind the counter quickly lit up and said, “I have something better for you!” We went back to the shoe section and, behold, she introduced me to Bedrocks.

Cairn Adventure Sandals at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, New Jersey
As soon as I saw them, I was in love! I realized that, not even a few hours prior, I had noticed a man wearing Bedrocks on the streets of Prescott. I thought that they looked so unique and just as I was about to tap him on the shoulder to ask him where he got them, I received a phone call. The Hike Shack sales rep (I can’t remember her name!) explained to me that Bedrock was a fairly new, sustainable, reliable, and beloved adventure company based out of Montana. She also assured me that the sandals were very durable and sturdy with a recycling and repair program set up by Bedrock that I could utilize when my pair needed to be eventually refurbished. After some trying on, I purchased two pairs, Cairn Adventure Sandals in Cooper color and Cairn 3D PRO II Adventure Sandals in Burgundy color. (And yes, I did look up the official colors on the Bedrock site!)
Ever since, I have not taken my Bedrocks off. As soon as I returned home to New Jersey, my boyfriend was immediately inspired and ordered his own pair. There is something about Bedrocks that I vibe with so much. First, I believe that the shoe, as a form of equipment, pushes me to do more adventuring and to pursue the physical health and nature connectedness that I want to achieve. Beyond this, I think that the brand is actually what means alot to me. I believe that Bedrock is more of a movement than it is just a brand. It is a movement that makes me feel a part of a community that believes in living life connected to our most natural and organic human roots. These concepts are shared by the West to East Global Sustainability Stories platform. Everywhere I go, I tell people about Bedrocks and encourage them to join the club.

From Prescott, Arizona to the trails of Northwest, New Jersey, my Bedrocks have held true! In the pictures included, I am at an important protected site in Northwest Jersey called Mahlon Dickerson Reservation. On Friday, I am off to Scotland and my Bedrocks will surely be on my feet.
There will be many more Bedrockin’ Global Sustainability Stories to come on the West to East Global Sustainability Stories platform.

Note: This is not sponsored content, I just really like my Bedrocks!
