Rain

By: Francesca Mundrick

Some of us enjoy it. Some of us hate it. Rain.

Grey skies, looming thick clouds, wet air.

No matter how many times the rains come, people comment on it. Why is it that a change in weather sparks so much reaction from us? Why does any change spark a reaction from us?

We view rain as an excuse to seek comfort or as an excuse to complain at our misfortune in being wet. Rain is something that interacts with us so often yet we treat it as an inconvenient condition. We notice its presence without fail but do we ever consider more?

We overlook the fact that rain is one of the simplest connections that we have to the natural world. Rain is a part of nature that generates a shared experience for most people throughout the world. It is an instance where the physical world reaches out to touch us, getting in our way, making us move, making us change our plans, making us change our routes, shaping us, forming us, cleansing us.

Nature can never be ignored and rain reminds us of that in a timely manner.

The next time it rains, don’t be so afraid to get a little wet.
