There is something special about traveling and finding artwork that makes you feel inspired and connected to the place you are visiting.
The sun was setting, while dinner was being enjoyed at one of the restaurants on a bustling street in Inverness, Scotland. Adorning the walls was a series of photographs capturing the wildlife found in the Scottish highlands. I could not help but quickly jot down the name and contact information of the photographer. My intention was to reach out to her upon my return home and express my admiration for her work. I was pleasantly surprised when she responded to my email and expanded on a few questions I had about her work and how photography allows her to tap in the natural world.
Hope Seeker Spotlight: Claire Ball
Claire Ball is an award winning Scottish based artist who specializes in nature and commercial photography. She was kind enough to send over one of her favorite photographs highlighted below. She mentioned that choosing one image was a bit tricky but she appreciates the Buzzard because of the heart shapes represented in their feathers.
Claire also shared with us, that living in Scotland is enough to inspire her work, stating, “you couldn’t possibly live here and not be inspired.” In response to my question about advice she would give to aspiring nature photographers, she humorously stated that they will require a “super amount of patience, big socks and lots of cheese sandwiches.” Although, this work can be a challenging process, nature photography allows her to connect with nature more deeply by “spending time, sometimes lots of time waiting for a particular animal, you don’t really think about anything else other than the shot. Its a great way to clear your thoughts.”
