City life gives us a ticket to plenty of opportunities for work, study and even entertainment. But who doesn’t get weary of the rat race; not to mention the crowded streets, hustle and bustle, and all sorts of pollution? The greatest thing about the 21st century is that so many innovative efforts are now being made to forge environmentally sustainable cities worldwide. Commendable steps in the right direction; yet my soul often yearns for an escape.

One thing I love the most about Africa and more specifically about my country Zimbabwe is the rich ecosystem that continues to be preserved in its natural state. Beautiful flowing rivers, dense forests, lush mountains, singing birds and an abundance of other animals that live freely in their tranquil environment! I believe it’s a once in a lifetime experience to spend some time in nature soaking in all the fresh air and healing the mind with breath taking views. It’s one thing to be told why it matters to protect our planet but to behold the fruits of conservation in the earth’s wild is EVERYTHING! I had one of such experiences when I went for a safari at one of Zimbabwe’s National Parks called Umfurudzi. It was fun, eye opening and absolutely refreshing. How about a Safari, camping trip or nature walk or picnic for that much needed reset from city life?
